The 2013 Georgia softball team will begin the year ranked ninth in the country, according to the NFCA/USA Today Coaches Pre-Season Poll. The dawgs began last season ranked 10/12 in the pre-season poll after garnering a 3/4 early ranking two seasons ago–a season where the ladies from Athens earned their first-ever 1st place poll position midseason. The 2013 squad is young and will have to pass many early tests to verify their Top 10 positioning in the polls as being accurate! It is interesting to note, that out of the 25 teams ranked in the poll, 7 of them are from the SEC, 5 of which are in the Top 10. Alabama, the reigning national champion, checks in at 1st place, Tennessee takes 6th, Mizzou comes in at 8th, and LSU at 10th. Florida is pre-season ranked 14th, while Texas A&M checks in at 17th. Hoping for an early season charge in the polls (even though the polls mean nothing, haha!) and think the fact that some top teams have tough first week schedules and Mizzou is stationary will help the girls’ positioning in the polls! Go Dawgs! Two weeks until first pitch against Elon!!!
