The Amateur Softball Association (ASA) and USA Softball announced the names today of 50 athletes to watch out for in 2013 as possible candidates for the prestigious collegiate Player of the Year award. Included on this year’s edition of the list is senior Bulldog pitcher/infielder, Tess Sito.
No stranger to big-time awards, Tess Sito reigns from Elyria, Ohio where she was the Gatorade Ohio Player of the year in both her junior and senior campaigns as a high school player. Sito spent her freshman and sophomore years playing softball at Cleveland State, where she garnered Horizon League Newcomer of the Year in 2010, and in 2011 was named the Horizon League Player of the Year. Success followed Sito when she became a Bulldog–in 2012, Sito compiled a 9-1 record with a 0.88 era, all while staying hot at the plate with a .305 average and nine home runs. Sito’s dominance from the circle and at the plate in 2012 helped her to garner NFCA All-Regional 1st Team honors.
Tess Sito was not the only SEC player to be named to the 2013 Player of the Year Watch List; in fact, there were 12 other players from the Southeastern conference listed. Kayla Braud (Alabama), Raven Chavanne (Tennessee), Mel Dumezich (TAMU), Rachele Fico (LSU), Lauren Gibson (Tennessee), Kaila Hunt (Alabama), Ellen Renfroe (Tennessee), Hannah Rogers (Florida), Madison Shipman (Tennessee), Chelsea Thomas (Missouri), Jackie Traina (Alabama), and Devon Wallace (Arkansas) were also named to the 2013 list.
Good luck to Tess Sito and all of the other 49 young ladies, as well as the ones not named to the watch list, on having a successful 2013 season! Go Sito and as always, Go Dawgs!
