Georgia Sweeps the Adidas Invitational, 5-0!

Georgia garnered their first sweep of the year this weekend in the Winthrop Adidas Invitational, amassing a 5-0 record and outscoring their opponents by a combined score of 66-7. Morgan Montemayor and Geri Ann Glasco each picked up a pair of wins, while Chelsea Wilkinson also picked up a win. Montemayor had an excellent weekend, going 2-0 and only giving up a single hit in 11.2 innings pitched, all while walking only one batter all weekend in 3 games played. MoMo pitched a one-hit, 11K shutout in the first game and pitched a no-hitter with 5K in the tournament finale against North Carolina A&T. MoMo faced the minimum against A&T, and if it were not for a fifth inning error, would have had a perfect game. Overall, pitching was good this weekend and the bats were excellent!

In the final game of the tournament in Rock Hill, Georgia continued their fiery offensive rampage, defeating the North Carolina A&T Aggies by a final score of 15-0 in a run-rule shortened (5 inning) game. With the exception of Niaja Griffin, every Dawg starter tallied an RBI in this contest–love to see this! Swafford (2-2) stayed hot and hit an infield single and a bomb to DEEP right field. Wilson drove in three runs and was 2-4 on the day. Iosefa and Puailoa went back-to-back JACKS in the final inning of the game, the second time in as many games for the Bulldogs. Tina had an absolutely fantastic weekend, hitting four long balls and brought her RBI total up to a whopping 21 runs batted in! Noteworthy: Katie Sowers pinch hit towards the end of the game and hit an absolute laser to left field, picking up both her first hit and her first RBI as a Georgia Bulldog. GO KATIE!

Overall, despite the weaker competition, the girls look fantastic on offense and, in my opinion, are going to give people fits all season long in the SEC! It is so fun being the literal under dog at the moment, and like I have said before: There is nothing scarier than a group of confident young girls!

! I sure hope one of our girls gets an SEC Weekly award! My nominations: MoMo Pitcher of the Week, Swafford Player of the Week, and Tina Iosefa Freshman of the Week!

As always, Go Dawgs!!!
