In the second game of the weekend against the Auburn Tigers, things were close for the duration of the game and both teams combined to give the fans quite a show! Compared to last night, both offenses were much quieter, although the bat of Kaylee Puailoa was a major exception! Kayle, or Moose as she is known, went a perfect 3-3 at the plate with two solo blasts and a single. This would be all Georgia needed as the Dawgs beat the Tigers in 2-0 fashion. Morgan Montemayor pitched a stellar ballgame, allowing just four hits and no runs in the complete game effort–all while striking out six Auburn batters and walking just two. I have not seen MoMo pitch that good in a long while and she now has not surrendered a run in almost 20 innings pitched!
Auburn rookie pitcher, Marcy Harper, suffered the loss to move to 10-3 on the season. I was very impressed with Harper as she moved the ball very well and had a very confident demeanor in the circle for the Tigers. It took a while for the Georgia bats to get going against the young Tiger hurler, and nobody hit her consistently with the exception of Moose who absolutely owned her all game! Auburn only has three true pitchers on the team with consistent appearances, and I have to think that Tina Deese throws Harper again tomorrow.
Things appeared to get exciting when the Auburn catcher, Shultze, hit an absolute blast to left field that must have been foul by about 2 feet. But, from the home-side angle, it must have looked fair because Tina Deese almost got ejected from the game via yelling, screaming, and arguing with the umpires over the call. MoMo would rebound nicely from the long foul shot with a big strikeout of Shultze. Morgan was able to get out of a few jams today, most notably a one-out jam with runners on 2nd and 3rd base.
The Georgia Bulldogs will look to get the conference sweep against the Auburn Tigers tomorrow at 2PM EST. The weather was warm and the breeze was nice in today’s game and it is supposed to be even hotter tomorrow–nothing like great warm weather and softball, right?! 😀
It will be interesting to see who Tina Deese will throw tomorrow, although you have to think she goes with Harper again after the game she threw today against the Dawgs. Geri Ann Glasco, Christine Olney, and Tess Sito each picked up a hit in the game to compliment the perfect 3-3 outing from Moose.
As always, Go Dawgs!
